HAPPY
NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!!!!
May I learn to look at myself with the
eyes of understanding and love. ~Thich Nhat Hanh
Personal
transformation can and does have global effects. As we
go, so does the world, for the world is us. The
revolution that will save the world is ultimately a personal
one. ~Marianne Williamson
Becoming
the Next Best Version of You in 2008
As the New Year begins, we have an
opportunity--an obligation to yourselves really--to reflect on
the past year, to take an inventory of what we have created
and consider what we would like to create in the coming year.
The real question is who do
we want to be-since what we create always
comes down to who we're being in the world. To
create all that your heart desires in the coming year, I
invite you to take some time to reflect and assess, and then
to step into the next best version of yourself. It's
essential to first look at who you are and love what you see.
That means you love your beauty, your grace and your
divine spirit, but you also love your blind spots, your
faults, your weaknesses-all that you'd rather not even see
much less admit to. Accepting that you are
both divine and human, perfect and flawed, eternal and
impermanent means accepting the grand paradox of all
paradoxes. Once you accept all of your
beauty and all of your imperfections, you can truly love
yourself, and with this love, you can transform your flaws
into your gifts, your struggles into successes, your
weaknesses into your strengths. I invite
you to use the following steps to reflect, accept and love,
and then recreate yourself.
Step One: The
Old You
Take some time to think about and write
down the following on a piece of paper:
- What you see as your weaknesses.
- Any regrets you have from the past
year (or even before if you're still holding onto them.)
- Any ways of being that are no longer
serving you.
- Any beliefs about yourself that are
preventing you from having/being what your heart desires.
- The negative self talk or stories you
have about yourself (For example, I am always saying the
wrong thing. Or, I won't ever learn to
manage my money.)
Step Two: Accepting,
Loving, and Learning from Who You've Been:
Sit with what you've written and review it carefully.
Then close your eyes and begin to breathe long and
deep. With each exhale give your heart permission to open.
From this open-hearted place, ask yourself what life
lesson you needed to learn from these weaknesses, from these
regrets, these beliefs. Let your Higher
Self provide you with the answers. See all
that you have not liked about yourself as a loving mother
looking at her child. Accept that you had
to be these ways in order to grow into a better you.
Love all these ways that have brought you to the desire
for change.
Now, open your eyes and write in your
journal about these lessons. Write about
what you have learned from these. Ask your Higher Self to
support you in reclaiming your true Divine nature and letting
go of your real or perceived weaknesses, your negative self
talk and all your regrets. Once you feel
fully supported. Tear up the paper you
wrote in Step One. As you tear it up, see
and feel it as a past version of yourself. See
this version of yourself as the one you must sacrifice in
order to become the next best version of yourself.
Step Three: Stepping
into the New You!
From this meditative place of love and
support from your Higher Self, write a description of the best
version of yourself that you can imagine being in 2008.
- Who do you want to be?
- How do you want to use your gifts?
- How do you want to treat others?
- What kind of you do you want to be.
- What do you value?
- How do you want to spend your time?
Be as specific as you want and include
anything and everything that you would like. What
do you look like, sound like? How do you
behave? What impression do you make on
others?
Step Four: Solidifying
YourTransformation
For the next 30 days, make a commitment
to spend some quiet time each morning reading what you wrote
in Step Three. Each time after you read it,
take just a few moments to close your eyes and see yourself
being that person. Allow a vision to come
to you of yourself fully being the person who is exactly what
you described (or even better!) You may
envision yourself in a situation that you anticipate, for
example a talk with your spouse, or a meeting with your boss.
Whatever comes to you, let it evolve naturally and be
with it 100%. Feel the feelings that you
feel as this best version of yourself. It's
very important to feel these feelings and sit with them for a
few moments. Then simply release and know
that this is you.
Also spend some time each night as you're
falling asleep to think about and feel the feelings associated
with this new version of self. Just drift
off with these thoughts and feelings.
I invite you all to join me in making 2008 your best year by
becoming the next best version of yourself. We
are all here to grow and to give the gift of ourselves to the
world. If we make this conscious effort to
let go of that smaller version of ourselves that is no longer
serving us and step into the larger version of our Divine
Self, if we allow a little more of our light to shine, we
enrich our lives and the lives of everyone around us.
One by one we can make the world a better place by
simply loving ourselves enough to grow into more of who we
really are.
I wish all of you a magnificent year of
living authentically, truthfully, creatively, passionately and
purposefully. I wish you all the courage to
become the next best version of yourselves!
With love and blessings~
